PREFACE
The teaching of Accountancy formally starts at class XI. Therefore, it is necessary that the theoretical basics be presented in simple and lucid language. Its principles and rules should also be explained logically. The authors are of the firm view that if the types of ledger accounts and the accounting rules applicable to them are clearly understood by the students, they learn all the books of accounts easily. The authors, therefore, have made an attempt to explain the basic concepts and the accounting rules in such a way that the students are able to comprehend them easily.
The authors were always conscious of the fact that the guidelines of CBSE should be properly interwoven wherever necessary, CBSE has clearly distributed the marks into 6 domains, viz. Remembering, Understanding. Application, Analysis, Evaluation & Creative Questions. The authors have given adequate questions at the end of each chapter. Each ‘very short answer’, ‘short answer’, and ‘long answer’ type question has been labelled with the domains, viz. Remembering, Understanding, Application, etc. to which it belongs. This will facilitate the task of the students to identify the domain of each question.
Besides giving the usual domain questions, the authors have given questions of Analysis, Evaluation & Creative domains at the end of each chapter. In nutshell, the authors have not only illustrated the theory and practical problems, they have given sufficient Practical and Theory questions at the end of each chapter.
Summary points, given at the end of each chapter, will facilitate the students’ task of revising the contents studied in each chapter. The authors wish to acknowledge the pains-taking efforts of Ms. Rajni Saggu and Ms. Amar Preet to go through the script and correcting the errors that, often creep in the experimental edition.
As is obvious, some deficiencies are bound to be there, teachers and students are requested to bring such deficiencies to the knowledge of the authors, if any and give further suggestions for improving this book. Their suggestions will be acknowledged with thanks.
